"a new way to utilise smart meter data"
Since their initial proposal in 2008, we feel that very little about the plan surrounding smart meters has been smart. Millions have been invested into this idea with little evidence of them achieving their goals while facing severe delays along the way
As young engineers who are passionate about using the knowledge we have gained along the way to make positive impacts on the planet and those around us, we felt the initial roll out plan was poorly thought through. However, we could see that smart meters had the same intentions as us and the potential to do a lot of good.
Tariff Down was conceptualised as a way to utilise the data being collected by smart meters in a way that will bring positive changes to not only your life but the life of your community as well. Backed by some of the top researchers at the University of Strathclyde, we hope to finally make the difference smart meters were always meant to.
1
Approximately 70% of first generation smart meters suffered from connectivity issues when the user switched providers
2
The deadline for finalising the roll out of smart meters has been delayed twice for a total of 5 years
3
The government has invested significantly in smart meters with little evidence of any benefits
4
Studies into their usefulness have been limited due to low availability of data and poor management of the data that is available
